{July 31, 2007}   Boy Meets World

Boy Meets World DVD

Boy Meets World is an American television sitcom that chronicles the events and everyday life lessons of Cory Matthews, who grows up from a pre-pubescent boy to a married man. The show aired for seven seasons from 1993 to 2000 on ABC, where it was one of the headliners of ABC’s TGIF lineup.

The show revolves around Cory Matthews; the other characters often serve to help him cope with his difficulties in achievement in school, his moral conflicts with his best friend, Shawn Patrick Hunter, and his trouble understanding his girlfriend Topanga Lawrence. Shawn is dissimilar to Cory; he is a social rebel, he has an unsupportive family, and he has success with women, something which Cory envies at times. Cory’s mother and father (Amy and Alan Matthews) are hard-working people trying to make a decent living in order to raise their three children (by the end of the series, a fourth child, Joshua Matthews, is born). Their other two children are Eric Matthews, the funny, handsome, sometimes borderline-psychotic older brother who tries to distance himself from Cory at all possible times; and Morgan Matthews, the younger sister, who sometimes uses her position as means of getting what she wants. Cory, with his stubbornness and laziness, struggles with his friends to get through school. To help them, there is Mr. George Feeny, Cory’s teacher and neighbor. He tries as hard as possible to get them through school and he eventually does. Finally, there is Topanga Lawrence, Cory’s first love, and in the later seasons, his fiancĂ©e, then wife. Topanga and Cory’s relationship is the main focus of the later part of the series, and at the end of the series, Topanga, Cory, Shawn, and Eric leave suburban Philadelphia for New York City while later new-comers to the cast, Jack and Rachel join the Peace Corps and Angela goes to Europe with her father.

{July 31, 2007}   Ally McBeal

Ally McBeal DVD

Ally McBeal is an American television series which ran on the FOX network from 1997 to 2002 and was one of the best-known “dramedy” television series of the 1990s winning several awards.
Created by David E. Kelley, the series starred Calista Flockhart in the title role as a young lawyer working in a fictionalBoston law firm (named Cage, Fish and Associates) filled with other young lawyers whose lives and loves were highly melodramatic.

Ally McBeal was hugely successful, but received much criticism from TV critics and feminists who found the title character annoying and demeaning to women because of her perceived flightiness, lack of demonstrated legal knowledge, and extreme emotional instability. Flockhart’s visible loss of weight by the second season also caused much media speculation. The show was also noted for the ever rising hemlines of Ally’s very short mini-skirts, which she wore in the courtroom.
However, Ally’s search for true love struck a chord with young female audiences, and the eccentric characters around her were developed further, giving the show firm footing.

{July 31, 2007}   X-men Cartoon DVD

X-men Cartoon DVD

The X-Men are a team of science fictional comic book characters, superheroes in the Marvel Comics universe. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, they debuted in The X-Men #1, published in September 1963. The X-Men are fictitious American mutants who, as a result of a sudden leap in evolution, are born with latent superhuman abilities which generally manifest themselves at puberty. In the stories, many ordinary humans harbor an intense fear and/or distrust of mutants (often referred to as Homo superior), who are regarded by a number of scientists as the next step in human evolution and are thus widely viewed as a threat to human society. The tensions are exacerbated by mutants who use their powers for criminal ends. The X-Men was formed by the benevolent Professor Charles Xavier, (a.k.a. Professor X), a wealthy mutant who founded an academy to train young mutants to protect themselves and the world from Magneto, the Brotherhood of Mutants and other mutant threats.
